1. Introduction to the Study
When these are put together, the nature of the house enjoyed depends on the control and future investment strategy of the individual. Some people might rather not invest time in the mundane tasks, like cleaning and washing, and thus would require a live-in helper or maid to minimize time spent on these chores, while less affluent families might have to do these chores themselves due to financial constraints, and the Japanese housewife might require other features for the upkeep of the house, like tatami floors, a central place in the living room, and being largely involved in activities during the day, having the responsibility for managing and controlling the smooth running of a single income family. Religious beliefs and customs also play a strong role in determining the type of house that they want. Some of these physical features are taken into consideration by house developers when they embark on their next project. For example, the apartment or house will usually sport a minimalist design for foreign investors who want to make it an investment and are showing a wonderfully completed kitchen that offers a separate dining area. Balconies add value, and so on. In the case of the landed house, the type of flooring may be of some significant, with certain spaces retaining some of the traditional charm.
Our society today is made up of people with different interests, and different investment strategies come into play as a result. As it involves a commitment for future delivery, the housing market is an example of such an area where capital remains tied up for a long period of time. Choosing a house is different from choosing a can of soft drink, especially if the house is to be used as a long-term investment. Not only is the brand name considered before purchase is made, but also factors like location, transportation access, the age and condition of the property, the interior and condition of the house (ease of maintenance), the size of the house, the lifestyle of the inhabitants that the house supports, and future potential are taken into account.
2. Historical Background of Korean Mattresses
Korea has been known for its unique bedding culture. However, the traditional korea king mattress in singapore is gradually disappearing. Mattress-related researchers and scholars hypothesize that one of the reasons for this is Korea’s intense, fast-paced life that rapidly embraced advanced Western civilization. Since the 1950s, slow life held by Confucian ideology has rapidly disappeared as countries have industrialized. As a result, the majority of people in densely populated cities no longer sleep in ocher-heated, ondol-floored rooms. Instead, they choose Western-style beds. The Western-style mattress is plump, easy to sleep on, and regulates body temperature well. It can be said that the unique mattress industry infrastructure, such as production and distribution, development and use of subcoating materials, and the method of using and manufacturing a separate bed base that enhances convenience, is being established. It has been a big challenge for the Western mattress industry and consumers to completely ignore the traditional Korean mattress in a few centuries in less than a century after experiencing the convenience of adhering to a separate bed base and enjoying comfortable sleep.
3. Types and Sizes of Korean Mattresses
There are three types of korea size mattress in singapore in brief. The double-size mattress is a standard product that is used in Europe and many other countries, and the concept is a bed that is used by using an upper/lower bed wherein when additional people come to the home, another mattress is inserted into the area below an existing bed made of the desired size. The Korean king-sized, queen-sized, and super single-sized, which are sold in Singapore for the first time, have been widely distributed in recent years, and the existing bed frame is small because the existing bed is inserted by the existing bed, and if another person comes to the home, a long mattress is inserted and slept. This product is also made to accommodate different sizes according to the type of home.
In this section, we will briefly describe the sizes and types of the products that are distributed in Singapore supermarkets. Various appliances and furniture from Korea have been distributed in Singapore for a long time, but standard bedding products have been limited in recent years to a small number of supermarkets and furniture companies located in the central business district. The only companies that have been distributing bedding products after the year 2008 are Han’s Wave – a shopping center commissioned by a Korean TV shopping company, Lotte Shopping Festivals Shopping Centre, and distributor of Cellin. These companies have been distributing mattresses of Korean king-sized, queen-sized, and super-single since 2009, and we will investigate Han’s Wave and Cellin.
3.1. Korean King Mattresses
The minimum to maximum price range of the korea super single mattress in singapore types in the study is $2,399–$5,868 Singapore dollars, with an average price of $3,715 Singapore dollars. The minimum to maximum price range of the Korean king pillow-top mattress types in the study is $2,000–$3,899 Singapore dollars, with an average price of $2,890 Singapore dollars. For the dimension measurements of the Korean king-size mattress types, when we measure the total thickness of the mattress, we measure the height of support base foam and the thickness of the latex or pillow-top materials. The minimum to maximum thickness of the Korean king latex mattress types in the study is 27–39 centimeters, with an average thickness of 34.1 centimeters. The minimum to maximum thickness of the Korean king pillow-top mattress types in the study is 31–38 centimeters, with an average thickness of 34 centimeters.
In this study, a Korean king-size mattress refers to a one-piece package of latex or pillow-top material with a fabric or quilting blanket. There are nine types of Korean king-size mattresses that belong to the three major mattress brands in the Singapore market; they are more targeted towards luxury-class consumers. These brands usually have their production facilities. The nine Korean king-size mattresses can be categorized on the basis of whether they contain latex or pillow-top material. When a Korean king-size mattress contains pure latex material and has the same dimension measurements, we will term this as a Korean king latex mattress. On the other hand, when a Korean king-size mattress contains pillow-top materials and has the same dimension measurements, we will term this a Korean king pillow-top mattress.
3.2. Korean Queen Mattresses
Overall, the Korean queen mattresses are 60 by 80 in. In case, Queen XL size is usually available in the United States, which is also approximately 60 by 80 inches. Therefore, the Korean queen mattress must be wider in order to accommodate the Korean adults. From this study, the Korean queen mattress turned out to be approximately 60 by 80 inches, the width may range from 60 to 61 inches, and the length may range from 80 to 82 inches. On the other hand, the USA Queen mattresses are usually about 60 by 80 inches. On comparing the Korean queen mattress and the USA queen mattress, the Korean queen mattress can easily accommodate the consumers in terms of dimensions.
Queen size mattresses are considered to be the most popular size of mattress in the USA. A queen size mattress usually measures about 152 by 203 cm (about 60 by 80 in). The Korean queen size mattress was measured to be about 153 by 203 cm which is very similar to the American size. However, most countries’ queen beds are approximately 152 by 188 cm. On examining the structure of Korean queen and regular queen mattresses, Korean queen mattresses turned out to be very similar to the structure of King mattresses and correspond to Queen XL, which is approximately 153 by 203 cm in the USA. Since there is not much price difference between the King and Queen beds, Korean people started to buy beds almost exclusively in the King size. Such practices have led to many new business models such as bedding and mattress manufacturing companies.
3.3. Korean Super Single Mattresses
The average price of the Super Single sized mattress is higher than the single size because the Super Single is positioned as an essential item for the teenagers and a convenient item for the parents. Teenagers who have not yet developed proper body posture have been found to prefer premium mattresses even though their parents are willing to provide only a relatively small amount. The parents give only a small amount until the proper body shape has been developed. However, all the business in Korea, except for certain waterbed companies, have not provided mattresses that target teenagers. Hence, targeting both parents and their children will produce the greatest profits. The parents get job satisfaction from being able to present their children with a sense of happiness. Thus, manufacturing and providing premium Super Single mattresses to teenagers is a production requirement in the Korean market.
The Super Single is another unique mattress found in the Korean market. This mattress has the same length but it is slightly wider than the typical single mattress found in the U.S. and Europe. As such, this mattress, along with the standard single size, allows greater maximization of small bedroom spaces available in Korea. The customers purchasing this mattress are generally teenagers between the ages of 13-17 or parents. The teenagers use the Super Single size as a transition size between the single and double sizes. Therefore, they tend to prefer a soft mattress that will mold to their body. However, the parents are more financially secure than the teenagers. Hence, they can afford to purchase premium mattresses that can provide the body support required.
4. Materials and Construction of Korean Mattresses
Some local Korean friends shared with the study team members that the traditional Korean King mattress is a floor-arising type consisting of at least four slices of mattresses in common. Its most important purpose is to have a comfortable sleep, like on the bed, while feeling the warmth of the floor. Mattresses are designed to fit the size under the bed and are composed of slices, such as the King and the super singles. As for the Queen size, which is the same as a single type, two mattresses can be used, due to a full size. The fixed-size sleeping room may not accommodate the use of pieces. Since the bed is raised on the bed, they have a good strength and hardness. Separate bedding is not necessary due to the usage of the vinyl cover, and it is a non-polluted product. It is in the public’s favor, which has promoted favorable growth; considering ventilation and humidity, emission of bad breath, antibiosis is appropriate for health and indoor gathering of harmful substance.
One new category of bedding product that has appeared in the local market is the Korean King mattress. Its name was intentionally chosen, as it sounds like the western king-size mattress. But how good are these mattresses? Therefore, this quality assurance research work will investigate the gap. This study staff undertook the purchase of one unit each of the Korean King, Queen, and Super Single mattresses, for a hands-on assessment. The project team members had also been trained on what to look out for in mattresses, through the purchase and blind assessment of a greater range of other types of mattresses instead. Specifications of the mattresses were obtained through searching Singapore retail shops.
5. Comparison of Korean Mattresses with Local Offerings in Singapore
A mattress is a key furniture item, as it provides support and comfort to the physical and mental health of the user. As such, purchasing the right mattress is important for a good-quality rest and peaceful sleep. When purchasing a mattress, factors to be considered include comfort and support, material, price, brand, firmness, size, sleep position, edge support, temperature and humidity in the bedroom, and fabric cover of the mattress. Mattress types and designs, comfort ratings, firmness, durability, and temperature regulation have a considerable effect on satisfaction rates and human health.
This study describes the engineering design and materials of king, queen, and super single (KQSS) mattresses, and compares the Korean KQSS mattresses to equivalent offerings in the Singapore market that are made in spring and polyether (low-density polyurethane) foam constructions with memory or bamboo cover treatments. These mattresses were evaluated by qualitative and quantitative methods. The Korean mattresses are innovative and frontiers in that they are the result of transdisciplinary input between industrial engineers, textile designers, furniture product designers, and consumer research psychologists that wholly takes into context the socio-cultural needs of the differing gender or martial roles in the intimate, private space of the bedroom. The methodologies and design ideas presented here will be useful for cross-disciplinary design research studies seeking to understand the house and residential space and the products within, eaten space (home interior: bedrooms), or external space home facade.
